I lived in Seattle WA from June 1980 to February 1982, at which time I moved to Los Angeles, and began my studies in Iyengar Yoga. I first met and studied with Shri B.K.S. Iyengar in 1984, and had no idea at the time that Iyengar's approach to the Art and Science of Yoga would become the main focus of my life. Later that year, I opened my Studio, "The Yoga Space" on Rose Avenue in Venice, CA, and, in 1986, hosted my first Yoga Intensive with the British Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Vera Sida, under whose rigorous and austere tutelage my Practice continued to evolve over the course of the following decade. Vera regularly held her students in 30 minute Head-Balance and Shoulder-Balance Cycles, and often personally demonstrated five minute Backarchings before groups of Students while shouting precise, detailed technical instructions with a Theatrical-Level Vocal Projection, without any signs of fatigue. Vera Sida's demonstrations and teaching of Advanced Arm Balancings at the age of 66, provided a source of extraordinary inspiration for students attending the First International Iyengar Yoga Convention in San Francisco in 1984. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I had previously never encountered the strength, power and Grace with which I observed the Presentation of Asanas "Postures" by B.K.S. Iyengar and Vera Sida, both in their mid-sixties at the time. I gathered my Yoga Props and moved to Santa Fe, NM in March 1987, and quickly gained a following of enthusiastic Yoga Students. I subsequently traveled to the city of Pune, in the East Indian State of Maharashtra, in the Summer of 1988 for classes with B.K.S. Iyengar and his daughter, Geeta, at RMIYI (Iyengar Yoga Institute) and spent an average of three months a year, five hours a day, in Intensive studies with my Guru and Mentor, Vera Sida, through 1996. I currently spend an average of 2 1/2 hours a day in the Practice of Yoga Asanas, and have recently undertaken the construction of a new home in the foothills below the Santa Fe Ski Basin. I'm taking a sabbatical from Teaching through the end of 2016 during the construction phase of my home, and expect to resume Teaching Yoga in the Autumn of 2017. It would be great to hear from Edison Classmates, as I've had little contact with High School friends since my last attendance at the 2000 Class Reunion!
