Mark Lynn Monkres, 52, was born at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas, TX on January 29, 1962. He passed away peacefully at his home in Tulsa on April 23, 2014 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. The oldest son of Terry Gwynn Monkres & Myrna Joy (Heffington) Monkres, Mark attended Barnard Elementary, Edison Junior & Senior High Schools, graduating with the Class of 1980. He attended Drury College, Springfield, MO on a diving scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor's in Communication. Mark was employed by M&D Controls, Vector, at the time of his death. An avid outdoorsman, Mark reached the rank of Eagle Scout at age 14. He loved to cook & entertain friends. Mark was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kappa Alpha Order, OBRA and Heartland Classic Boat Club. Mark is survived by his parents; partner, Melissa Backward of the home; daughter, Marissa Lynn Monkres, Springfield, MO; sister, Cynthia Davis (LaVere); brother, Tim Monkres (Carolyn), all of Tulsa. Also nephews, Blake Brownlee, St. Louis, MO, Mark Brownlee and Matthew Brownlee, Tulsa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Mark's outgoing, fun-loving personality and tender heart endeared him to all who knew him. Service for Mark will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, 7th & Boston.
